Brazen Warship

Last year at church, I got an idea while in prayer to write and record my own praise album while I was contemplating my own disdain at the music being performed in the church at the time. I knew it wouldn’t be a typical Christian music album as I typically don’t write typical music. But, I wanted it to be accessible enough for many of the church’s teenage crowd. God put a few other ideas about it on my heart, including the giving away of the album for free and accepting songwriting contributions from other faithful musicians. This came as quite a command to humility as I am a control freak about my music and composition.

While talking to Sarah about it on the way home, she came up with the idea of calling it “Brazen Warship,” which (I think) is a wonderful play on words. As the songs are in different stages of being written and recorded, I will post the latest versions here for your downloading pleasure.

This album originally started out as being a Christian hard rock/metal album, but I don’t think I can muster the energy to write that many hard tracks. It will have its share of “nasty” and “nice” songs.

Technical details: I am using Logic Studio 8, Pro Tools 7.1, Digidesign xpand, ToonTrack’s Drumkit From Hell (irony?), and MOTU’s Symphonic Instrument.

Downloads and track info

I have written a ton of tracks/ideas for this album, but I want to include more ideas from other people. If you would like to contribute to the album (whole songs, single parts, advice, whatever), let me know.

Song List

I believe I’ve narrowed down the song list for this record and a general order I like, unless I write a song that I just can’t leave off the record. There are a few wimpy songs that I’m debating on how to sprinkle through the record, but I think this is pretty good. Comes out to 60 minutes of music.

  1. Throne of God – Composition stage, definite album opener
  2. Fight – Composition and recording stages; Daniel Shin on piano
  3. Keeping the Faith – Composition and recording stages
  4. The Hopeless – Composition stage; Jacob Wilkins song idea I’ve embellished upon
  5. Major – Composition stage
