Truly one of the most spectacular places on Earth (although Monument Valley is my personal favorite), The Grand Canyon is a vast expanse of mountains, valleys and the Colorado River which winds its way through this incredible place.
The Canyon is measured in "river miles" - that is the distance of the Colorodo River as it snakes through the Canyon floor. In river miles it is almost 250 miles wide. As the "crow flys" it measures close to 150 miles wide. If you fell from the highest point in the Canyon, you would fall a mile before you hit ground. Ouch.
These are the best of many photos that I took. I hope you enjoy them. Remember, these pictures cannot do the Grand Canyon justice - it is something to be experienced.

This is a photo I took along the trail from Mathers Point to one of the Lookout stations on the East rim of the Canyon.

Here is a other view from the East Rim Trail.

Here I am at Mathers Point. Mathers is the first viewpoint on the East Rim as you travel towards the Grand Canyon Village. It is perhaps the most dramatic vista, offering incredible views to a distance of 60 miles.

I took this photo of this "twisty tree" because it had such character.

Here is one of my favorite photos of the Monkey at Mathers Point.

Here is the Monkey and the Monkey Ms.

Here is yet another view from the East Rim trail. By the way, some of the monuments are named after - you guessed it - Egyptian gods!!! For instance, one of the monuments is known as "Cheops Pyramid" (Cheops was the Pharaoh who allegedly built the Great Pyramid of Egypt), another called "Osiris Temple" (one of the central gods of the Egyptian pantheon) and yet another monument is called "Isis Temple" (the Egyptian goddess and wife/sister of Osiris).

The Monkey doing his Monkey business at Mathers Point. He likes to stand on cliffs without railing and scare the heck out of us usually.

This is the view from the Grand Canyon Village, which is the central hub of the park.

The Monkey on the trail towards one of the lookout points.

On the second day of our Grand Canyon excursion, it began to snow - boy was it cold!! This is the last shot I have of the Canyon. Some day I will take photos of "Desert View" on the south side of the East Rim. There was so much snow and cloud cover (we were above the clouds) that we couldn't see anything at the Desert View vista. That black object on the upper right corner is a bird.
