The El Rancho Hotel - home of the movie stars!

I just had to take some photos of this place - it has so much character. When we arrived in Gallup, New Mexico this was our first stop. Built by the brother of movie mogul D.W. Griffith, the El Rancho hotel was home to movie stars like Ronald Reagan, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Kirk Douglas, whose autographed glossies adorn the walls of the hotel. What a blast!

Here is the outside of the hotel. Each room was named after a movie star who frequented the hotel. I stayed in Jane Russels room (I was hoping to be haunted but she never showed up).

Serge and Laura stayed in the Ronald Reagan presidential suite -cool.

The second floor of the hotel is filled with autographed 8x10 glossies of all the movie stars who've stayed at El Rancho. You can see some of them in this photo.

Here is a most rustic and beautiful fireplace, with a Navajo basket mounted above it.

To the right of the piano, you can see what has to be one of the largest geodes I've seen in Arizona or New Mexico!
